Ước tính: Lượng khí thải carbon toàn cầu vào đầu tháng tư thấp hơn 17% so với trước đại dịch corona
Một nhóm các nhà nghiên cứu đã đưa ra một ước tính flash phức tạp để định lượng tác động của các biện pháp nhằm kiềm chế đại dịch corona đối với sự phát thải CO2, khí nhà kính quan trọng nhất. Theo ước tính, lượng khí thải carbon toàn cầu vào đầu tháng 4 có lẽ thấp hơn 1/6 so với trước đại dịch.

Sự sụt giảm tuyệt đối mạnh nhất kết quả từ giao thông và sản xuất. Các tổ chức khoa học từ bảy quốc gia trên ba châu lục đã tham gia nghiên cứu, bao gồm Viện nghiên cứu khí hậu có trụ sở tại Berlin (Viện nghiên cứu Mercator về các vấn đề toàn cầu và biến đổi khí hậu) và Đại học Technische, Berlin. Nghiên cứu hiện đã được công bố trên tạp chí khoa học nổi tiếng Nature Climate Change.

Mặc dù tầm quan trọng của khí thải carbon, cho đến nay chưa có thu thập dữ liệu thời gian thực, với số liệu thống kê quốc gia đôi khi tụt hậu nhiều năm. Do đó, nhóm nghiên cứu đã thực hiện cách tiếp cận gián tiếp: các cuộc điều tra liên tục về tiêu thụ năng lượng và nguyên liệu thô, sản xuất công nghiệp và lưu lượng giao thông ở 69 quốc gia, chiếm 97% lượng phát thải toàn cầu, là cơ sở của tính toán.

Các nhà khoa học bổ sung các giả định về thay đổi hành vi được kích hoạt bởi phòng chống đại dịch và dữ liệu vệ tinh về ô nhiễm không khí. Ước tính nhanh cho ngày 7 tháng 4 năm 2020 là giảm 17 megatons CO2 mỗi ngày - giảm 17% so với mức 100 megaton trước đại dịch corona.

Sự vận chuyển bề mặt chiếm tỷ trọng lớn nhất hàng ngày 17 megatons ít CO2, ước tính 7,5 megatons (tương ứng với mức giảm 36%). 4,3 megatons khác (giảm 19 %) là do sản xuất hàng hóa và dịch vụ, và 3,3 megatons (giảm 7 %) để phát điện. Giao thông hàng không chiếm 1,7 megatons (giảm 60%, thể hiện sự bất thường tương đối lớn nhất) và khu vực công cộng là 0,9 megatons (giảm 21%). Ngược lại, có một sự gia tăng nhẹ 0,2 megatons (3 %) ở các hộ gia đình.

Nghiên cứu cũng đưa ra dự báo về lượng khí thải carbon vào cuối năm nay, phát triển ba kịch bản khác nhau. (1) Nếu các hạn chế áp đặt vào tháng 3 giảm xuống 0 vào giữa tháng 6, lượng khí thải carbon trong năm 2020 sẽ thấp hơn khoảng 4% so với khi không có đại dịch coronavirus. (2) Nếu các hạn chế được duy trì cho đến cuối tháng 5 và tình hình trở lại bình thường vào cuối tháng 7, mức giảm sẽ là khoảng 5%. (3) Nếu ngoài kịch bản thứ hai, chính quyền cần phải phá vỡ các chuỗi nhiễm trùng riêng lẻ vào cuối năm nay và đưa những người bị ảnh hưởng vào kiểm dịch, mức giảm là khoảng 7%.
