Đột biến của virus SARS-CoV-2 không dễ dàng lan rộng
Virus SARS-CoV-2, gây bệnh COVID-19, sẽ biến đổi theo thời gian. Hiện đã có một số chủng virus này, mặc dù các nhà khoa học không chắc chắn liệu chúng có thể được coi là đột biến riêng biệt hay không. Hiện nay, một nghiên cứu mới do ULC dẫn đầu đã phát hiện ra rằng những đột biến đã được mô tả không thực sự làm tăng khả năng truyền bệnh của virus.

Khả năng truyền bệnh của virus mô tả mức độ dễ dàng lây lan của virus từ vật chủ của nó sang người khác. SARS-CoV-2 lây lan rất dễ dàng - dễ dàng hơn nhiều so với virus cúm thông thường. Tuy nhiên, các nhà khoa học cho rằng khả năng truyền của nó dường như không tăng, đó là tin vui cho tất cả mọi người.

Các nhà khoa học đã xác định được 6.822 đột biến ở SARS-CoV-2 trên toàn bộ dữ liệu toàn cầu. Họ đã sử dụng các phương pháp mới để xem liệu những đột biến đó dường như được lan truyền dễ dàng hơn. Họ lưu ý rằng virus corona như SARS-CoV-2, giống như các virus RNA khác, phát triển đột biến theo 3 cách khác nhau - do nhầm lẫn từ sao chép lỗi trong quá trình sao chép của virus, thông qua tương tác với các virus khác lây nhiễm cùng một tế bào hoặc bị ảnh hưởng bởi RNA từ hệ thống miễn dịch của vật chủ. Phân tích cây tiến hóa của SARS-CoV-2 các nhà khoa học phát hiện ra hầu hết các đột biến là trung tính.

Tiến sĩ Lucy van Dorp, tác giả đầu tiên của nghiên cứu, cho biết: Người ta chỉ hy vọng rằng một loại virus sẽ biến đổi và cuối cùng chuyển sang các dòng khác nhau khi nó trở nên phổ biến hơn ở người, nhưng điều này không nhất thiết rằng bất kỳ dòng virus nào sẽ xuất hiện là dễ truyền hoặc có hại.

Trong trường hợp SARS-CoV-2, các nhà khoa học phát hiện ra rằng những đột biến đó dường như không làm tăng khả năng truyền bệnh của virus. Hầu hết các đột biến dường như được gây ra bởi hệ thống miễn dịch của con người, đây thực sự là tin vui. Điều sẽ tồi tệ hơn nếu virus thích nghi với môi trường  đối kháng trong cơ thể người. Sự tiến hóa là một điều mạnh mẽ. Nếu virus này thích nghi để chống lại phản ứng của hệ thống miễn dịch của chúng ta, nó sẽ có khả năng làm cho nhiều người bị bệnh hơn.

Những đột biến mà các nhà khoa học đã phân tích có liên quan đến một trong những protein tăng đột biến virus có tên là D614G. Họ lo lắng rằng đột biến đặc biệt này sẽ làm tăng khả năng truyền bệnh của virus. Do đó, vì nó là một đột biến rất phổ biến, và không liên quan đến việc truyền virus.

COVID-19 sẽ kéo dài trong vài năm tới. Hy vọng, các đột biến mới sẽ không biến điều này thành một căn bệnh theo mùa mới và chúng ta sẽ sớm quên nó.
