Deputy Director of Directorate of Standards, Metrology and Quality Nguyen Hoang Linh

Also according to Deputy Director of Directorate Nguyen Hoang Linh, although many great results have been achieved, over time, however, the development of standards still has limitations that need to be overcome. Specifically, the participation of businesses, the subject of standard activities is still passive, depending on the state to develop standards for application; the majority of enterprises are small and medium sized, with limited resources, production equipment, and production management skills that have not yet met the requirements.

In addition, enterprises have not paid due attention to the development and application of standards, not fully aware of the role of standards in their production and business activities; The team of experts operating in the field of construction, applying standards is still lacking, the number of specialized experts is limited, and the quality are lacking.

Building standards to promote green growth

For Vietnam, sustainable development is identified as an inevitable path. According to some experts, the development of standards to adapt to the policy of promoting green and sustainable growth is an urgent need.

Regarding this issue, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh said, at present, the trend of the world is that economic development is closely associated with environmental protection. In the national standard system, Vietnam has built 750 standards towards promoting green growth, such as Group of standards on environmental quality, air quality, water quality, waste management; standard on organic agriculture ISO 11041; groups of standards on smart cities, smart grids serving Vietnam's sustainable smart city development project for the period of 2018-2025 and orientation to 2030.

The Deputy Director of Directorate also said that priority should be given to the development of standards related to new raw materials and fuels to replace mineral fuels; recycled energy; energy efficiency for electrical equipment products; waste water reuse; reduce garbage; products with water-saving features; environmentally friendly technologies; Biodegradable packaging and etc.

In addition, it is necessary to develop standards for responding to climate change, such as standards for quantification and inventory of greenhouse gases for industries, air conditioning using new generation refrigerants to replace the environment old refrigerants containing ozone-depleting substances and etc.

What do businesses need to do to meet standards in the context of integration?

Mr. Nguyen Hoang Linh shared, it is a fact that can be seen clearly in the past time that many Vietnamese enterprises have been proactive, active and sensitive in finding and grasping technical requirements to deliver goods exports to access new markets. In order to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese business community to promptly access new international requirements and regulations, the Directorate of Standard, Metrology and Quality has provided and organized free consultations on national and international standards related to the field of medical equipment, such as ventilators, respirators, medical masks, antibacterial masks, the field of risk management, quality management systems in general and specific to the industry health services in particular on the Directorate's Portal.

In addition, in order for enterprises to meet integration standards, it is necessary to have close coordination with State agencies in supporting and helping enterprises to access and demonstrate more easily, with the common goal of bringing Vietnamese products and goods of better quality, so that not only domestic consumers but also consumers of countries around the world are satisfied.
