In the afternoon of September 22, 2021, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology organized an online Science and Technology Council to consider directly assigning the city-level science and technology project "Selection of fragrant and high-quality rice varieties with the brand "Can Tho Rice." The study is carried out by Dr. Tran Ngoc Thach. The Mekong Delta Rice Institute is a presiding agency. The project implementation period is expected from September 2021 to March 2025.

The research is carried out with the aim of developing a specific rice product branded "Can Tho Rice" to improve production value sustainably and adapt to climate change.
The project will carry out the following contents: Developing a set of quality criteria for the "Can Tho Rice" brand and selecting new rice varieties for the development of the "Can Tho Rice" brand; Building sustainable farming processes, meeting consumer market requirements and adapting to climate change; Building a model of linking rice production and consumption with the Can Tho rice brand according to the criteria of large fields associated with new rural construction.
The implemented project will select from 2-4 high quality and aromatic rice varieties, yield potential from 5-9 tons/ha, (amylase 18-20%, grain length> 6.5mm, little white belly, etc.) suitable for production conditions in Can Tho). 01 process of safe organic rice cultivation. 2-4 rice varieties are registered for intellectual property rights.
The Council has unanimously approved the project, but the research team needs to edit and add some content at the request of the council members.
