The role of standards in smart city development in Vietnam
In the course of research, international and national standards organizations have clearly determined: The standardization body is an indispensable entity in the implementation of smart and sustainable cities.

Vinhome Smart City – Smart operation with 24/7 centralized operation center applies artificial intelligence, Internet of things (IoT) in monitoring and operating the entire mega-city.

Smart city is a city model that applies information technology and artificial intelligence to manage and improve urban living standards, improve service quality of the city government and use efficient energy and natural resources.

Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present generation without compromising the ability of future generations to meet those needs on the basis of a close and harmonious combination between economic growth and development, solve social problems and protect the environment. In other words, smart city is associated with the concept of achieving sustainability through the application and use of advanced information technology on a large scale, the main goal of smart city is said to increase sustainability through modern technologies.

In Vietnam, building a smart and sustainable city is identified as one of the three core tasks in the national digital transformation process. Smart and sustainable cities bring many benefits to different audiences, from authorities, people, businesses to economic sectors.

All have the opportunity to benefit from smart and sustainable urban development as well as directly participate in the process of smart and sustainable urban development, such as improving the efficiency of investments, saving costs, save energy, save resources, support and solve hot problems of the city today.

In addition, smart and sustainable cities also help increase accessibility, improve social services, contribute to economic development and increase quality of life.

Currently, there are 26 published TCVN on smart and sustainable cities. These standards all belong to Group 1 "Standards on management and assessment of smart and sustainable cities". In addition, there are 17 TCVN on smart buildings, 06 TCVN on Intelligent transportation system (belonging to groups 4, 5), along with TCVN on IoT, Cloud computing, etc., for development purposes. Sustainability cannot fail to mention the ISO 3712X series of standards, which is a set of standards for urban indicators for community sustainable development that reflect the relationship between sustainable development, recoverable development, and smart development. Progress towards sustainable development through maintaining and improving urban services and quality of life in the face of stress and shock is the core element of a city.
