Trends of electronic waste treatment technologies
The workshop "Technology trends for electronic waste treatment" has just taken place online on the Google Meet platform, organized by the Center for Science and Technology Information and Statistics of Ho Chi Minh City (CESTI, under Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology) in collaboration with experts from institutes, schools and technology enterprises.

The workshop provided information on technology trends for e-waste treatment and recycling in the world on the basis of analyzing patent data and introducing existing technologies in Vietnam, as well as being ready to cooperate and transfer to serve the process of treating and recycling these types of wastes.

Here, experts also answered and directly advised managers, researchers and businesses on methods of applying and deploying endogenous technology into practice.

Some outstanding solutions and technologies were introduced at the workshop, such as e-waste management in Vietnam in the direction of a circular economy (Prof. Nguyen Duc Quang - Hanoi Polytechnic University). Currently, most e-waste is collected and dismantled in an irregular manner, focusing only on recovering materials that are easy to recover and recycle (such as some metals), the rest is destroyed or disposed into solid waste landfills. Therefore, it is necessary to increase the capacity of recycling and collection from the community. The solution proposed by associate Professor Nguyen Duc Quang is to manage electronic wastes according to the technological process of separating and recovering metals from electronic circuit boards (PCBs).

Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Van Lu - Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment, introduced Circuit board incinerator and metal recycling in electronic waste treatment. This technological solution is the result of scientific and technological research tasks (implemented at the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology), allowing the recycling of e-wastes by the method of burning with high efficiency, quick recovery and many precious metals. The recovered metal is smelted in a suitable metal recycling furnace, ensuring technical requirements and recovery efficiency. The incinerator is designed to meet national standards QCVN 30:2012/BTNMT on environmental protection.

Technology to recover Yttrium and Europi from fluorescent lamps after use (Dr. Ha Vinh Hung - Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Hanoi Polytechnic University of Science and Technology) has been successfully tested at the waste recycling laboratory (Hanoi Polytechnic University). This technology is stable, allowing to recover Yttrium with purity over 95%, Europium with purity over 90%, recovery efficiency over 90%, easy to operate. The technology's applicability is quite wide, not only allowing Yttrium and Europium to be recovered from fluorescent lamps, but also applicable to LED lamps and LCD screens.

MSc Hoang Xuan Duong - HiTech Vietnam Technology Development Company, introduced an electronic waste treatment line, especially hashing and crushing solutions to ensure complete deformation of hardware devices (drives hardware, motherboards, monitors, phones, fax machines, printers, ATM boards, etc.); prevent data disclosure, enhance security for prototyping and security; good support for the stages of sorting, separating plastic materials from metal and etc. in the treatment process.
