Technology - "assistance" for smart cities

Smart urban development is a new and popular trend in the world to face and solve urban development problems, such as rapid population growth, pollution, environmental degradation, etc. In the context of the pandemic with the complicated development of Covid-19, the birth of smart urban areas has become more and more important to support the issues of sustainable socio-economic development - environment, and at the same time enhance the quality of life for people.

In that process, technology is not the only factor, but it plays the role of the main solution, helping smart cities to come into play, and at the same time, the aids for the "change of flesh and blood" of many localities. More and more startups in the field of real estate, construction, design, infrastructure... provide new products, apply breakthrough technologies, such as AI, Big Data... New business models for the field of real estate and information technology was born from there.

As a close follower of Vietnam's innovative start-up activities, Pham Hong Quat, Director of the Department of Market Development and Science and Technology Enterprises, said that the Covid-19 pandemic has caused technology businesses to face great challenges. Many enterprises fell into difficult circumstances and were forced to transform; but there are also businesses that take advantage of opportunities to perfect and transform their units.

Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh - President of NextTech Group shared that the conditions for the development of smart cities in Vietnam still have many barriers and challenges in terms of procedures, records, papers and processes. Covid-19 with a high spread rate in densely populated urban areas, high population density, shows that the determination of smart cities in Vietnam needs to be paid more attention. And the core of these cities are digital transformation developers in the real estate sector.

Looking back from 2020 so far, many real estate businesses have invested heavily in online transaction sites, applying cross-platform technology to connect. From distancing, limiting contact, digital technology has proven its superiority in product promotion, information connection, and increased interaction between investors and customers. “However, up to 80% of real estate technology companies in Vietnam are foreign companies or foreign invested capital. Digital transformation must be a revolution for the whole people, everyone must use digital technology, from which we can have true smart cities," said Mr. Nguyen Hoa Binh.
