Mid-term evaluation council of the project “Completing automatic numerical control plasma cutting machine for supporting mechanical engineering industry in Can Tho City"
In the morning of February 12, 2022, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology organized a Science and Technology Council to conduct mid-term inspection of the project "Completing automatic numerical control plasma cutting machine for supporting mechanical engineering industry in Can Tho City.” The study is carried out by Dr. Nguyen Huu Cuong. Can Tho University is a presiding agency of the project. The implementation period is 24 months from August 31, 2020 to July 31, 2022.

Project implementation contents include: Improving design, manufacturing mechanical structure plasma cutting platform with industrial design, suitable for actual industrial production needs; Improved design and assembly of mechanical and electrical actuators for plasma cutting machines; Improved the profile copying mechanism according to the mechanical action mechanism, separate from the switch head of the plasma cutter; Fabrication of fast profile copying mechanism from images, using machine vision technology; Allow to perform profile copying without contact with the specimen, through the camera; Improve the method of curve interpolation and build a computer software program to process the copied specimen profile and convert it into G-code; Build a main controller for plasma cutter; Build main control software programs and user interface for the plasma cutting machine; Synchronously integrate the plasma cutting machine frame with the main controller, install software programs into a complete plasma cutting machine system; Testing automatic numerically controlled plasma cutting machines at coordination units to evaluate the operability and efficiency in industrial production environments and to adjust and complete the necessary specifications.

The overview of the evaluation

Over the time of implementation, the project has improved the design and successfully manufactured 01 automatic numerical control plasmam cutting machine with satisfactory technical parameters as expected. Fully researched and fabricated 2D profile copy software and toolkits, ready to be integrated into the plasma cutter into a working system that allows users to quickly copy and machine from preformed samples available. However, the situation of the complicated developments of the Covid-19 disease will limit the ability to coordinate with production units and organize the introduction of products and results of the project with businesses.

Expected work to be implemented in the near future: Implementation of content 9. Testing of automatic numerical control plasma cutting machine activities at the coordinating units to evaluate the operation ability, effectiveness in an industrial production environment and perfectly adjust the necessary technique parameters. Organize an online workshop  to introduce the technology of making automatic control plasma cutting machines with businesses and partners. Documenting the technological process of designing and manufacturing automatic controlled plasma cutting machines.

Council's members evaluated the plasma cutting machine

The Council highly appreciated the mid-term results of the project and agreed for the project to continue implementing the remaining phase.
