Vietnam is transitioning to a growth model based on science, technology and innovation
Vietnam is transforming from a growth model based on capital and labor to a growth model based on science, technology and innovation. This is a long-term goal that requires the participation and cooperation of departments, ministries, branches, localities, businesses and the whole society in the application and development of science, technology and innovation.

Minister of Science and Technology Huynh Thanh Dat emphasized the above at the ceremony to respond to the National Innovation Day (April 21) and World Intellectual Property Day (April 26) organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology in the afternoon of April 21.

According to Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, following the direction of the Government leaders, this year, for the first time, Vietnam will organize the National Innovation Day to respond to World Innovation Day on April 21.

This is also an event in the series of activities towards Science and Technology Day (May 18) to honor those who do science, innovation; introducing, disseminating and recording scientific and technological achievements and innovations of the country; strengthen the companionship and cohesion of scientists-enterprises-State and society to develop science, technology and innovation in Vietnam.

According to Minister Huynh Thanh Dat, science, technology and innovation are identified as the driving force and foundation in the socio-economic development of countries. In Vietnam, the viewpoint of promoting scientific and technological development and innovation to become the driving force and foundation for the country's socio-economic development has been expressed in many documents of the Party and laws and policies of the State.

Therefore, it is necessary to strengthen and further promote activities to honor and recognize scientific and technological achievements and innovation, and to raise awareness of the community and society about science, technology and innovation.

Carrying the message "Intellectual property, innovation and the young generation for a better future", the ceremony to respond to National Innovation Day and World Intellectual Property Day this year is organized by the Ministry of Science and Technology with the desire to share and raise awareness about the role of innovation and intellectual property in socio-economic development and sustainable development, especially honoring such innovations and creations is led by youths

Congratulating Vietnam on its great achievements in recent years, Mr. Christian Manhart, UNESCO Representative in Vietnam, said that innovation is a very important factor for Vietnam to master and exploit all economic potentials of the country, creating new impetus for fields, such as education and training, creating jobs, thereby promoting economic growth.

In particular, innovation is more important than ever in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic and current challenges, such as environmental degradation, poverty alleviation and etc.

Mr. Christian Manhar also affirmed the strong commitment of United Nations agencies to support Vietnam in its comprehensive socio-economic development, including promoting innovation, especially in government policies for innovation such as building science and technology business incubators, startup ecosystem, smart city deployment.

From local side, Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, Director of the Hanoi Department of Science and Technology, said that the launch of the Ministry of Science and Technology to respond to and celebrate World Intellectual Property Day and especially this year has been jointly organized with National Innovation Day is a very meaningful event for Vietnam in general and provinces and cities in particular.

According to Mr. Nguyen Hong Son, innovation activities are diverse and have many different levels. It can be the implementation of a new idea, the creation of new inventions, works of art, films, musical works, or plant varieties, or as a specific technical product… At any level, innovation always originates from ideas. This is also the origin of the intellectual property of mankind. Therefore, it can be said that intellectual property helps improve creativity for individuals as well as organizations.

Vietnam continues to be commented by WIPO as a model worth learning: "Vietnam is among the 50 GII economies that have made the most significant progress in innovation ranking over time. Along with China and Turkey United States, India and the Philippines, Vietnam has real potential to change the global innovation landscape in the coming years, which is key for other countries to learn from countries like Vietnam and join the group of countries that are constantly on the rise in innovation."
