Building, exploiting and developing the value of intellectual property for products under the OCOP Program in 2022-2025 under Can Tho city Intellectual Property Development Program
In the morning of June 1, 2022, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology established a Council to consider and approve organizations and individuals presiding over the intellectual property project "Building, exploiting and developing the value of intellectual property for products under the OCOP Program in 2022-2025” under the Can Tho City Intellectual Property Development Program. The Council is chaired by Mr. Ngo Anh Tin - Director of Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology. The study is carried out by Mr. Nguyen Tan Nhon. The Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Can Tho City is the agency in charge of implementing the project.

Overview of the meeting

The project is implemented to build, exploit and develop the value of intellectual property for OCOP products of Can Tho City, improving product values, expanding markets, increasing profits for subjects, contributing to socio-economic development for localities.

Council's members

It is expected that the following contents will be implemented: Surveying and investigating data of related parties; Building a brand identity system for the OCOP Program and a separate identification system for each product participating in the OCOP Program; Capacity building training on intellectual property rights (IP) for stakeholders; Organizing study tours in Da Nang and Quang Nam; Develop OCOP product management regulations; Organizing seminars, monitoring and evaluation activities.

Information about OCOP products:

Can Tho City has implemented the Program according to Decision No. 2863/QD-UBND dated November 5, 2018 of the City People's Committee approving the Project "One commune, one product" for the period of 2018 – 2020, orientation to 2030, in the area of ​​Can Tho city. The development of products, the development of organizations producing and trading typical products of the city, has the advantage of contributing to the restructuring of the agricultural industry. Up to now, Can Tho city has 41 products with 3-star, 4-star and 5-star OCOP certifications of 19 subjects. The city's OCOP products have been gradually changed in terms of product appearance and quality and have been recognized by the market. However, the intellectual property projection products of Can Tho city are still limited, specifically:

- There are 68%(13/19) certified trademarks;

- 32% (6/19) subjects have barcodes;

  - Only 5% (1/19) of subjects have geographical indications;

  - And the subjects have not promoted the product brand identity (product name, logo, slogan, packaging, and etc).

The implementation of the project will improve the business performance of the subjects participating in the Program, one product per commune (Product value increases at least ≥10% compared to before the Program), expand the market product consumption increased by at least ≥ 10%. Raise awareness for subjects, businesses, management levels and customers for products that have achieved OCOP product certification. Help the subject transparent product information to consumers; Exploiting and developing brand names to build trust with customers as well as enhance commercial competitive position. Contributing to improving product value, improving people's income and solving social security problems.

The Council appreciated the project's presentation and unanimously approved it. However, the research team need to edit and add some contents according to the comments of the council members.
