Specifically, “GSER 2022 Global Startup Ecosystem Report” of StartupGenome said that Ho Chi Minh City dropped to this year's position slowly from 61-70 position last year; while Hanoi was removed from the rankings after a year of appearing in the 91-100 position.

StartupGenome evaluates emerging ecosystems by 4 indications: Performance - 45%, Funding - 30%, Market Reach - 15%, Experiences and Talent (Experience & Talent) - 10%.

Most of HCMC's indexes this year are at 1 (the lowest on a 10-point scale), significantly lower than last year; however, the ability to raise capital is still at an average of 5 points.

The GSER report is built on the database of StartupGenome, Dealroom, Crunchbase, PitchBook and some local partners (incubators, startup hubs, investors, and etc.). The report assesses more than 280 ecosystems worldwide.

According to StartupGenome, in 2021, the world will reach a record of 540 startups becoming unicorns - compared with 150 startups the previous year. There are 113 ecosystems that have attracted a huge amount of capital over 1 billion USD. In 19 ecosystems - including Ho Chi Minh City - the first unicorns will appear in 2021.

The top 10 emerging ecosystems in this year's report also have significant changes compared to the previous year, including (in order from highest to lowest): Detroit (USA), Hong Kong (China), Dublin (Ireland) ), Minneapolis (USA), Houston (USA), Manchester-Liverpool (UK), Guangzhou (China), Research Triangle (USA), Barcelona (Spain), and Brussels (Belgium).

Besides Top 100 Emerging Ecosystems, GSER also ranks Top 30 Ecosystems in the world, in which North America continues to dominate with 47%, Asia ranks second with 30%.

In addition, StartupGenome also provides specific analyzes on the characteristics of some typical ecosystems and investment / divestment trends in areas, such as Robotics, AI & BD, Blockchain, Edtech and etc.

Previously, a ranking report published by StartupBlink, a competitor of StartupGenome in ranking startup ecosystems, on June 2, said that the startup ecosystem in the two largest cities of Vietnam this year has changed: Ho Chi Minh City increased 68 places and approached the Top 100 of the world's ecosystems, while Hanoi dropped 22 places and dropped out of the Top 200.
