In the afternoon of April 20, the Ministry of Science and Technology held a ceremony to respond to the World Innovation Day (April 21) with the message "Innovation - The foundation for promoting modern national development". This is also an activity in a series of activities to celebrate Vietnam Science and Technology Day (May 18).

Innovation is increasingly seen as a key driver of economic growth in many countries. Vietnam is no exception to this trend. In recent years, the State has implemented a series of policies to promote S&T and innovation. Typically, such as encouraging the development of S&T enterprises, supporting innovation startups, investing in research through national S&T programs, the National Science and Technology Development Fund, the National Technology Innovation Fund...

These efforts have yielded positive results. According to the ranking of the Global Innovation Index (GII) in 2022 published by the Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam is assessed to have the highest innovation capacity among developing countries. Specifically, Vietnam ranked 48th out of 132 countries, ranked 4th in Southeast Asia - after Singapore, Malaysia and Thailand. Vietnam's startup ecosystem ranks 54th in the world, 12th in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Van Tung, the above results have shown the potential and resilience of Vietnam in the context that the country is still facing many difficulties, and economic and political factors in the world are evolving complicated.

However, Vietnam needs to further promote innovation if it wants to improve its national competitiveness as well as cope with the increasing economic and political volatility in the world. Therefore, "Our results of innovation are not really sustainable, there are a few years when Vietnam has risen to the top 3 in the region, but it is still not as stable as the above countries like Thailand", Mrs. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai at the Academy of Science, Technology and Innovation commented at the workshop.
