Women's creativity helps to change the world
The above message was sent by the National Office of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology), Department of Science and Technology of Hanoi City, Hanoi University organized through a community event to celebrate World Intellectual Property Day April 26 (IP Day 2023) in Hanoi.

 "Women with intellectual property - Promoting innovation" Workshop

Speaking at the event, Director of the National Office of Intellectual Property Dinh Huu Phi emphasized the role of women in society in general and in innovation and intellectual property activities in particular. The author of the vaccine invention Astrazeneca is a woman to prevent COVID-19 and save millions of lives during the pandemic; The originator of GPS, wifi and bluetooth technology is a woman, and the scientist who researches the internet or technology using solar energy is a woman. These women's creations are truly transforming the world.

In Vietnam, there are famous female scientists, such as Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Tram - Vietnam Academy of Agriculture, who has successfully researched dozens of hybrid rice varieties worth billions of dong; Prof. Dr. Le Mai Huong, Institute of Chemistry of Natural Compounds - Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology won the Gold and Silver prizes at the 2018 International Exhibition of Women's Creativity and Intellectual Property of the Association of female Scientists of Korea; Dr. Le Thai Ha is the only female scientist in Vietnam honored in the list of 100,000 most influential scientists in 2022 announced by Elsevier Publishing House.

Three female scientists: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Minh Ha - Head of Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Institute of Chemistry of Natural Compounds, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phan Thi Phuong Nhi - Hue University of Agriculture and Forestry; Dr. Ha Thi Thanh Huong - International University, Ho Chi Minh City National University was honored by "L'Oréal - UNESCO For the Development of Women in Science" with the World Young Female Scientific Talent Award.

It is the efforts of women, regardless of where they are, of any age and skin color in innovation activities in the past time, that have fundamentally changed prejudices on the issue of "gender", denying outdated views believe that S&T and innovation are not the domain for women.

According to a survey of S&T research results in Vietnam, the number of female researchers in research institutions across the country has been increasing and has reached about 44.8% in 2016. The number of women appointed the increase in the rank of professor in the 20 years (from 2000 to 2020) has increased from 4.3% to 15.3%. Those figures show that the participation of women in innovation activities in Vietnam has been paid attention and has shown positive signs.

According to Mr. Andrew Ong, Director General of the Asia - Pacific Department of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), Vietnam is a success story in terms of economic development; highly entrepreneurial. The field of intellectual property in Vietnam has also changed and developed in a very impressive way.

Within the framework of the program, a seminar "Women with intellectual property - Promoting innovation" was held to share experiences among female scientists, entrepreneurs and especially female students. As a result of women's innovation activities, especially encouraging women to participate more in the intellectual property system to protect and add value to their work and build a better future.
