Promoting science, technology and innovation cooperation between Vietnam and Australia
The Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on cooperation in science, technology and innovation not only promotes cooperation in the field of science, technology and innovation between the two sides, but also contribute to facilitate socio-economic development between the two countries.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents: a Memorandum of Understanding between the Vietnam Ministry of Science and Technology and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on cooperation in science, technology and innovation.

On June 4, 2023, within the framework of the official visit to Vietnam by Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, right after the talks, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese witnessed the exchange of cooperation documents and opened two direct flights between the two countries.

The cooperation exchange documents include: Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam and the Australian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade on cooperation in science, technology and innovation; Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade on the establishment of a Ministerial Dialogue on Trade between Vietnam and Australia; Memorandum of Understanding between the State Bank of Vietnam and the Australian Transaction Reporting and Analysis Center (AUSTRAC) on Cooperation in exchanging financial intelligence related to money laundering and terrorist financing; Memorandum of Understanding between the University of Western Sydney (UWS) and the University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City (UEH) to provide 70 scholarships to Vietnamese and regional students to study at UWS's campus in Vietnam.

Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Bui The Duy on behalf of the leaders of the Ministry of Science and Technology of Vietnam signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation. Accordingly, the Memorandum of Understanding will facilitate the exchange and sharing of information on typical activities in science, technology and innovation; and Identify ideas and mutual interests to strengthen innovation partnerships including activities under the Vietnam - Australia Innovation Partnership Program (Aus4Innovation).

In the context that the Australian Government attaches great importance to investment and support for scientific research and innovation activities, which is clearly reflected in the national science and innovation strategy (2016) of Australia. Vietnam will be one of 17 countries in Australia's cooperation priority list. The Strategy for Strengthening Economic Cooperation between Australia and Vietnam has provided a potential opportunity for cooperation between Australian and Vietnamese organizations in science, technology and innovation. In particular, knowledge and innovation is one of the main pillars of the bilateral strategic partnership between Australia and Vietnam.

In Vietnam, Vietnam's Strategy for Science, Technology and Innovation Development to 2030 has been issued, which emphasizes that science, technology and innovation development is the top national policy, playing a strategic breakthrough role in the new period, the main driving force to promote growth, create breakthroughs in productivity, quality and efficiency.

With the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding in the field of Science, Technology and Innovation, it is hoped that in the near future, the relationship between Vietnam and Australia will reap new successes in this field. Thereby, affirming the position and potential of cooperation in many other fields, making an important contribution to promoting socio-economic development between the two countries.
