Determination of antioxidant and antifungal activities of young rice for use as functional foods and skin care cosmetics
In the afternoon of June 16, 2023, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology met the Council to evaluate and accept the city-level S&T task "Determining antioxidant and antifungal activities of young rice for use as functional foods and cosmetics for skin care cosmstic". MSc. Tran Hoai Phuong, Deputy Director of Can Tho city Department of Science and Technology is the Chairman of the Council. The study is carried out by Dr. Nguyen Phu Tho and Mr. Dang Chi Thien. Can Tho Application of Science and Technology Advancement Center is in charge of implementation.

Overview of the meeting

The purpose of this study was to determine the antioxidant activity and antifungal activity of young rice that can be applied to the production of functional foods and skin care cosmetics.

Council's members

Through the implementation period, the research team has determined to select suitable rice varieties to produce young rice flour that can be used as a functional food; Determining and selecting suitable rice varieties to produce anti-fungal extracts of Cadida that can be used as skin care cosmetics. As a result, rice varieties NTH and IR50404 are suitable for production of young rice flour.

The appropriate growth period is 4-5 weeks. Sow in natural conditions without shading. The two rice varieties IR50404 and HRO showed the highest antifungal activity, suitable for producing extracts that can be applied as skin care cosmetics. The appropriate concentration of ethanol for the extraction of compounds with antifungal activity in young rice was 60%. Solvent ratio of young rice is 10:1

Research team

The project is new, the performance targets have been exceeded, the implementation progress is in accordance with the outline. The council agreed to accept the project. However, the research team needs to edit and add some contents according to the comments of the council members.
