"Academician Oparin": A scientific survey cooperation ship in Vietnam's sea
Recently, a scientific research ship of the Russian Federation named "Academician Oparin" brought scientists from the Russian Federation and Vietnam on a journey to survey biodiversity and marine biochemistry in the waters of Vietnam from May 18, 2023 to June 7, 2023. This is the 4th joint survey in the "Road of cooperation in marine research for the period of 2018-2025" between the Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology and the Russian Academy of Sciences; At the same time, it is the 8th survey trip by ship "Academic Oparin" between the two sides in Vietnamese waters.

With the goal of supplementing and updating data on biodiversity, the potential to regenerate resources, and maintain aquatic seed sources; collect specimens for biochemistry and microbiology research; Searching for biologically active substances, assessing environmental quality, concentrated in the deep sea, shoals and offshore islands and etc. Vietnamese - Russian scientists conducted a survey in 11 areas from Nha Trang to Ba Ria - Vung Tau, bottom raking was carried out to collect samples at 8 stations, diving to survey at 20 stations and obtained 3,640 marine samples, 4,240 measurement data and 4,044 documentary photos.

At the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Long - Head of the Vietnamese scientific team and Dr. Dmitrii Palageev - Head of the Russian Federation's scientific delegation reported the initial results of the survey. Scientists from both sides are expected to continue to work together to conduct research on species diversity on reefs; assessment of species diversity in some deep sea areas; assess the current status of coral reefs; assess the current status and the possibility of replenishing the population and dispersing to neighboring areas; evaluate the potential for isolation of biologically active substances from some marine species; evaluate the content of some persistent organic compounds and the ability to accumulate microplastics in biological samples and marine sediments; Surveying the field distribution of seaweeds and seagrasses for satellite image interpretation.
