Can Tho ranked 2nd in the country of innovation output
In 2023, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the Local Level Innovation Index. Accordingly, Can Tho ranked in the top 5 localities achieving the highest PII index in the country. As for innovation output, Can Tho ranked second in the country, just behind Hanoi.

In the morning of April 25, 2024, Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology organized a scientific workshop with the theme "Intellectual Property - The foundation for promoting innovation and socio-economic development."

Mr. Ngo Anh Tin - Director of Can Tho Department of Science and Technology said that on March 12, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the Provincial Innovation Index (PII) for 2023. Accordingly, Can Tho is in the top 5 localities achieved the highest index in the country with a score of 49.66, including infrastructure indicators; knowledge, creativity and technology products; institutions, and etc. scored quite high.

Mr. Tin expects that this workshop will contribute to enhancing connection efficiency and supporting the promotion of protection registration activities and intellectual property development; Improve the competitiveness of products, goods and services of businesses, organizations and individuals in Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region in the context of economic integration.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Tran Giang Khue - Head of the Southern Office, National Office of Intellectual Property of Vietnam affirmed that the increase in product value is based on intellectual property rights and intangible assets, or in other words is the brand. He hopes that Vietnam's agricultural products, from grown coffee beans to cups of coffee on the dining table, will become an added value chain, increasing in intangible value. For example, the lesson of Can Tho rice exported to Thailand and some other countries, through processing technologies, they export it back to Vietnam at a price three times higher. Thereby, it shows that this incident needs the cooperation of science and technology, industry and trade, and relevant authorities.
