Intellectual property - The foundation for promoting innovation and socio-economic development
To celebrate "World Intellectual Property Day" April 26 and honor the role of intellectual property in socio-economic life, raise community awareness of intellectual property, Can Tho Department of Science and City Technology organized a scientific workshop with the topic: "Intellectual property - The foundation for promoting innovation and socio-economic development", in the morning of April 25, 2024, at Ninh Kieu hotel 2 (No. 3 Hoa Binh, Tan An ward, Ninh Kieu district, Can Tho city).

The workshop took place with contents including: (1) Intellectual property in promoting innovation and socio-economic development; (2) Developing intellectual property from R&D and innovation activities at the University; (3) Solutions to enhance business value through innovation and intellectual property development. Video introduces activities to support the development of intellectual property in Can Tho City, and seminar "Solutions to promote the role of intellectual property in promoting innovation and socio-economic development. Within the framework of the workshp, there will also be activities displaying and introducing typical products and goods of Can Tho city and the Mekong Delta region have protected intellectual property rights; Consulting and connection activities to register and protect intellectual property rights for organizations, individuals and businesses.

Speaking at the workshop, Mr. Ngo Anh Tin - Member of the City Party Committee, Secretary of the Party Committee, Director of Can Tho City Department of Science and Technology said that the Intellectual Property theme 2024 shows that innovation is considered one of the important development indicators, a factor that orientate the development center of each country.

On March 12, the Ministry of Science and Technology announced the Provincial Innovation Index (PII) for 2023. Accordingly, Can Tho City is among the top 5 localities achieving the highest PII index score in the country with a score of 49.66. Among them, many indicators have quite high scores, such as infrastructure (55.45 points, ranked 9th); knowledge, creativity and technology products (52.52 points, ranked 12th); institutions (50.02 points, ranked 6th), and etc. This is consistent with the characteristics, natural conditions and economic structure of the locality in the region. The city is also the locality with the second highest innovation output ranking in the country, just behind Hanoi. This result shows that Can Tho excels in knowledge products and technological innovation.

Delegates 

Innovation indicators will be the basis for assessing strengths, weaknesses, potential factors and necessary conditions to promote socio-economic development based on science, technology and innovation of each locality; Contribute to improving the capacity and results of national science, technology and innovation activities; especially contributing to implementing, monitoring and evaluating the implementation of the Science, Technology and Innovation Strategy to 2030, the Socio-Economic Development Strategy to 2030, the Intellectual Property Strategy to 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals; create motivation for the city to introduce policies to promote and create a favorable environment for local science, technology and innovation activities.

The workshop is an opportunity to exchange, share and listen to opinions, suggestions and recommendations from Institutes, schools, departments, branches, and the community of scientists, especially businesses and science and technology enterprises and a representative force of union members and youths from provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta to propose solutions to promote the role of intellectual property as a foundation for promoting innovation and of socio-economic sustainable development of Can Tho city in particular and the Mekong Delta in general.
