Science and technology: The key to responding to climate change
Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Tran Hong Thai emphasized that for science and technology (S&T) to truly become a key in responding to climate change, protecting the environment and sustainable development, scientists need to promote research and application of digital transformation and artificial intelligence in responding to climate change.

On May 30, 2024, in Hanoi, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) and the Ministry of Science and Technology jointly organized the international scientific conference "Science and Technology - The key to reducing natural disaster risks and responding to climate change, environmental protection and sustainable development" and the Medal Awarding Ceremony for the cause of Science and Technology to Prof.Dr. Tran Thuc.

The conference is an opportunity for domestic and international scientists, leaders and managers in the fields of hydrometeorology, environment, water resources and climate change to share and research optimal solutions to resolve the global, regional and national challenges. Thereby, comprehensively assessing emerging challenges at global, regional and national scales; Propose solutions to promote the application of science, technology and innovation for green transformation and green growth, contributing to natural disaster prevention and response to climate change.

Speaking at the Workshop, Deputy Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Le Cong Thanh affirmed that science and technology play a key role in forecasting, preventing and mitigating natural disaster risks, effectively responding to climate change and protecting the environment; Especially in the context of climate change becoming more and more evident, natural disasters are increasing in frequency and level of increasing destruction as today.

Deputy Minister Le Cong Thanh said that the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment has been actively implementing many programs and projects on research and application of science and technology to protect the environment and develop sustainably. The achievements show the importance of investing in science and technology, which is the key to solving challenges. Accordingly, to achieve more sustainable and comprehensive results, there needs to be close cooperation among countries, international organizations, ministries, branches and domestic and international scientists.
