Ho Chi Minh City aims to become AI development and application Center in the region, top 5 in ASEAN

In the afternoon of May 30, 2024, in Hanoi, Ministry of Information and Communications had a working session with the leaders of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee on the digital transformation program, digital economic development and artificial intelligence (AI) of Ho Chi Minh City.

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Committee for Community Affairs and Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai co-chaired the meeting. Also attending, there were Deputy Minister Pham Duc Long, Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Tran Thi Dieu Thuy and leaders of units of the Ministry of Information and Communications, Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and a number of digital technology enterprises.

At the meeting, Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Phan Van Mai expressed his thanks for the attention and support of the Ministry of Information and Communications to Ho Chi Minh City in recent times and said that Ho Chi Minh City is very interested in digital transformation, but has not yet achieved it as desired. Among the three pillars of digital transformation, Ho Chi Minh City focuses on building digital government and developing digital. However, building a digital government scientifically, effectively, and best serving the people is still limited.

Regarding digital development, the proportion of digital in measured GRDP of Ho Chi Minh City is not high. “We set a target of 25% by 2025, 40% by 2030. This is the problem." Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said.

Ho Chi Minh City sets big goals for digital transformation, AI development and hopes for support from units of the Ministry of Information and Communications. If possible, a joint working group can be established between the Ministry and Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to discuss, determine specific things to do, and report monthly. Regarding AI development, "We determine that Ho Chi Minh City will become AI development and application center in the region, top 5 in ASEAN." Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said.
