Scientific workshop on the coastal strip of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province in 2024
In the morning of June 18, in Vung Tau City, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Phuoc - Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Union of Science and Technology Associations (Ho Chi Minh City Union of Associations) attended and spoke at the workshop.

Reporting at the workshop, Dr. Truong Thanh Cong - Chairman of the Union of Science and Technology Associations of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province said: Ba Ria - Vung Tau is a coastal province with many potentials and conditions for economic development, especially economic development related to the sea. With 156km of coastline stretching from Ganh Rai Bay to Binh Chau, it is an important gateway to the maritime transportation system of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and the Southeast region. However, the coastal strip of the province is also subject to many impacts from climate change, such as storms, sea level rise, coastal erosion, and etc. In addition, human activities in the process of industrialization and urbanization also have negative impacts on the environment, and the economic and social development of the coastal strip.

According to Mr. Dang Son Hai - Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, in the current climate change conditions, coastal protection is of top importance and vital for sustainable socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security of Vietnam in general and of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province in particular. The province has also developed a strategy and implemented scenarios to respond to climate change and sea level rise and conducted master planning for the province's socio-economic development in association with sector planning, local planning, and planning tourism development, industrial planning, port planning, traffic planning, storm shelter planning.
