Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology met with the press on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day
In the afternoon of June 19, the Department of Science and Technology of Ho Chi Minh City organized a press meeting on the occasion of the 99th anniversary of Vietnam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925 - June 21, 2024) to connect and grateful to the team of reporters and journalists in the work of communicating science, technology and innovation.

Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung (Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology) congratulated the journalists, shared and exchanged some information about the Department's activities.

Attending the meeting, there were representatives of the Department of Science and Technology, representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City Press Center and more than 20 reporters and journalists working at press agencies, radio stations, and television in Ho Chi Minh City.

Sharing at the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Viet Dung (Director of Ho Chi Minh City Department of Science and Technology) sent congratulations and gratitude to the team of reporters and journalists who have accompanied the Department's activities during the past time. At the same time, he shared some of the Department's operational orientations in the coming time, as well as his desire to listen to suggestions and contributions from the team of reporters and journalists on new media models, contributing to promoting activities of science, technology and innovation.

According to Mr. Dung, the overall results of science, technology and innovation activities in 2023 are quite impressive. Notably, we have exceeded the annual plan targets of the Project to support the development of an innovative startup ecosystem for the period of 2021 - 2025 (Project 672). Overall for the period of 2021 - 2023, the results of implementing the main targets are as follows: supporting to improve innovation capacity for 7,649 businesses, reaching 255% of the target for the whole period of 2021 - 2025 (3,000 businesses); Support incubation and development of 1,001 projects, reaching 100.1% of the target for the whole period of 2021 - 2025 (1,000 projects); Support 276 innovative start-up businesses to access venture capital, reaching 276% of the target for the whole period of 2021 - 2025 (100 businesses). Regarding investment expenditure for social science and technology in Ho Chi Minh City, the average investment expenditure for social science and technology in the period of 2021 - 2023 reaches 0.88%/GRDP.

These results have contributed to making Ho Chi Minh City's innovative startup ecosystem a solid foundation to support innovation activities with resources, such as more than 2,300 innovative startups (accounting for 50% of the country's number of start-up businesses); Nearly 200 venture capital funds, 97 universities and colleges and more than 500 startup events, nearly 80 startup competitions each year are taking place in the City. One of the bright spots of Ho Chi Minh City's innovative startup ecosystem is maintaining its leading position in the country, reaching 111th place in the global startup ecosystem index ranking 2024. contributing to increasing Vietnam's global startup ecosystem index in 2024 (ranked 56th in the global startup ecosystem index ranking 2024, announced by StartupBlink - Center for Research and Mapping global startup ecosystem map).
