The person who "helped" the Shan Tuyet tea brand reach the world
In 2019, Bac Ha organic tea products of Ban Lien Tea Cooperative (Lao Cai) were certified by the Central OCOP Council to meet 5-star standards, bringing products to the international market with exports mainly to Europe, the US, and Japan, reaching a value of 100-120 USD/kg.

Mr. Pham Quang Than, the person who helped the Shan Tuyet Ban Lien - Bac Ha tea brand reach the world

Thanks to that, the cooperative has helped hundreds of Tay and Mong farming households have stable income and create long-term jobs. Chairman of the cooperative, Mr. Pham Quang Than, shared the journey of overcoming difficulties from 2006, when he first started developing the organic tea growing model, to building the brand and expanding the export market, with more than 430 members and an area of nearly 1,000 hectares, of which more than 800 hectares are organic tea.

Tea-growing households in Ban Lien are mainly located in Doi 1, 2, 3, 4 villages, where the climate and soil are suitable for growing Shan Tuyet tea that meets 5-star OCOP standards, recognized since 2019. Village head Lam A An said that the whole village has more than 80 hectares of organic tea, in which many households like Mr. Vang A Binh's family also combine the homestay tourism model with tea growing, generating an average income of over 100 million VND/year. People actively contribute to infrastructure construction, typically by donating land and contributing money to pour concrete on a 7km long road from the commune center to the village, clearly demonstrating efforts for sustainable development.

With technical support and sustainable policies, Shan Ban Lien tea has become a typical OCOP product, helping to improve the quality of tea trees and local brands. In the first 8 months of 2024, more than 50 tons of tea were exported with a value of more than 100,000 USD/ton, bringing a stable life to members and contributing to promoting rural economic development, preserving the traditional values of the Mong and Tay people.
