Department of Science and Technology Responds to World Creativity and Innovation Day
“Creativity and Innovation – Breakthrough Action, Spreading Results”; “Creativity and Innovation – Faster, Stronger Transformation to Turn Ideas into Value, Aspirations into Reality” are the themes chosen to mark World Creativity and Innovation Day 2026.

Every year on April 21, the United Nations (UN) designates World Creativity and Innovation Day to raise awareness of the role of creativity and innovation in socio-economic development, building sustainable societies, and fostering human progress in all dimensions.

In recent years, Vietnam’s legal framework on science, technology, and innovation has been comprehensively established by the National Assembly and the Government. Innovation has been institutionalized as a national pillar, with the foundational conditions for a national innovation system taking shape, while the startup ecosystem continues to grow.

To celebrate World Creativity and Innovation Day 2026, the Ministry of Science and Technology issued Decision No. 2131/QĐ-BKHCN approving the plan to organize activities nationwide. At the same time, Official Dispatch No. 2341/BKHCN-ĐMST was sent to ministries, government agencies, provincial People’s Committees, and central associations, calling for participation and guiding the organization of activities in response to the event.

The UN’s annual initiative aims to promote creativity and innovation across communities and society, fostering a culture of innovation and encouraging collective action.

Vietnam’s activities will focus on effectively implementing policies on science, technology, and innovation; mobilizing social resources to address major challenges in ministries, sectors, and localities; and applying innovation to production and business practices to achieve rapid and sustainable growth. The initiative also emphasizes strengthening the national innovation system, developing innovation centers, and enhancing connections between government, enterprises, universities, investors, and communities.

Key activities include:

  • Public communication campaigns to highlight the significance of World Creativity and Innovation Day.
  • Multi-platform creative media to spread the spirit of innovation widely.
  • Dissemination of Party and State policies on science, technology, and innovation.
  • Launching practical initiatives tied to the missions of agencies, enterprises, and communities, applying innovation to solve real-world problems, improve productivity, and enhance quality of life.

Additionally, outstanding models and initiatives will be identified, recognized, and scaled up. The program seeks to build a culture of innovation, expand creative spaces, establish innovation centers, and develop platforms that connect innovation across sectors.
