During the meeting, Mr. Vincent Clerc, Global CEO of Maersk Group, assessed the Lien Chieu port project as a testament to long-term cooperation and investment commitment in Da Nang in particular and Vietnam in general. The Group committed to using new technologies, experience, and international practices to build a green, smart, and modern Lien Chieu port.
"With the Lien Chieu port project, we are not just building a port, but want to build a green and modern logistics ecosystem. We aim to complete the project so that we can welcome the first ships within the next 30 months," said Vincent Clerc.
Mr. Vincent Clerc pledged to leverage his experience in managing integrated ports with Free Trade Zones (FTZs) globally, such as Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) in Malaysia and Shanghai, in line with Da Nang's large-scale FTZ development plan adjacent to Lien Chieu Port, contributing to long-term growth in Central Vietnam. "We hope to bring that experience to help Da Nang become a leading regional transshipment and logistics hub."
Furthermore, Maersk affirmed its commitment to expanding investments in integrated logistics and warehousing, forming a synchronized ecosystem to support the connection of the Group's global customer network with Vietnam's production and supply chain, enabling Vietnamese goods to access key markets.
At the meeting, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung, Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee, welcomed Maersk Group's investment activities, especially in the Lien Chieu port project, and assessed it as a key project of the city, a strategic infrastructure project playing an important role in the socio-economic development orientation of Da Nang; he also committed to continuing to support and accompany the enterprise in the project implementation process.
Regarding the Free Trade Zone, Mr. Nguyen Manh Hung stated that Da Nang is currently actively working with central ministries and agencies to finalize the institutional and legal framework. This is a new and groundbreaking model in Vietnam. The Free Trade Zone, combined with Lien Chieu Port, will create new momentum and strength to propel Da Nang forward in the coming years.
The Chairman of the Da Nang City People's Committee expressed his hope that Maersk Group would continue to expand its investment into many other potential sectors in Da Nang City.
