Netherlands-Vietnam Semiconductor Cooperation: Fostering Future Generation Development
On April 15, 2026, the University of Technology (UET) of Vietnam National University, Hanoi (VNU), in collaboration with the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands and the Nuffic Southeast Asia Office, organized the international workshop “Promoting the Development of the Future Generation: Netherlands-Vietnam Semiconductor Cooperation”.
Amidst the dramatic transformations in the global semiconductor industry, Vietnam is presented with a significant opportunity to become a crucial link in the global supply chain as many technology corporations shift their manufacturing operations to Southeast Asia. However, the biggest challenge currently facing the domestic semiconductor ecosystem is the shortage of high-quality human resources, particularly those equipped with up-to-date knowledge and practical skills according to international standards.

The workshop is an important part of the high-tech education and technology cooperation framework between Vietnam and the Netherlands, aiming to maximize training effectiveness and inspire the next generation of engineers. The workshop's objectives are: to disseminate knowledge and share practical experience; to bridge the skills gap; to connect training and recruitment; and to promote international cooperation.
Speaking at the conference, the Dutch Ambassador to Vietnam, Kees van Baar, emphasized that the decisive factor in attracting high-tech businesses lies not only in infrastructure but also in the quality of human resources. Therefore, preparing a team of capable engineers to fill technical positions, while bridging the gap between university education and the practical needs of businesses, is an urgent requirement today.
The ambassador also stated that close collaboration between schools and businesses plays a crucial role in equipping students with knowledge and skills; thereby expanding opportunities to access the international environment and better meeting the requirements of the semiconductor industry in the future.
At the conference, Professor Chu Duc Trinh, Rector of UET, affirmed that we are in an era where the semiconductor industry plays a crucial role in driving development. As global supply chains are changing, Vietnam is becoming an important part of this high-tech ecosystem. To build a sustainable semiconductor ecosystem, the decisive factor is not only infrastructure but also human resources. Therefore, it is necessary to focus on training a generation of engineers with a solid knowledge base, professional skills, practical thinking, and international experience.
UET is committed to developing as a research university, with semiconductor workforce training as a strategic pillar, implemented comprehensively from training programs and laboratory systems to business collaborations.
