Quang Tri province has planted over 6,000 hectares of rice with reduced emissions.
This year's winter-spring crop season, the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Environment continues to coordinate with businesses and localities to implement rice production models that reduce emissions, covering an area of over 6,000 hectares.

Accordingly, the low-emission rice farming model has been implemented in 13 communes in Quang Tri province, covering a total area of over 6,000 hectares. In these models, through alternating wet-dry irrigation techniques aimed at generating carbon credits, farmers have proactively regulated water, contributing to reducing irrigation water usage and greenhouse gas emissions.
Localities with large areas include Gio Linh commune with 900 hectares, Truong Ninh and Vinh Thuy communes with 800 hectares each, Quang Ninh with 700 hectares, and Ninh Chau with 600 hectares.
Thanks to the synchronized application of technical solutions, the rice crop is growing well and is entering the harvesting stage. According to assessments, the yield of this year's winter-spring rice crop in Quang Tri province is high, averaging about 70 quintals/hectare. Some localities have reached 75 quintals/hectare. During the production process, farmers saved on irrigation water, seeds, fertilizers, etc., reducing costs by 20-30% and increasing production efficiency.
Looking ahead to the summer-autumn crop and subsequent seasons, Quang Tri province is expanding the model and gradually participating in the carbon credit market for rice production. To prepare for this roadmap, the Quang Tri Department of Agriculture and Environment has coordinated with the People's Committees of communes and irrigation units to thoroughly review the area under active irrigation, and at the same time organize technical training courses for local officials and farmers.
With support from the North Central Agricultural Science and Technology Institute and foreign partners, the monitoring process to ensure that Quang Tri rice grains qualify for international carbon credit certification is carried out strictly and rigorously.
